Kate Moennig is returning to Showtime in another gay role

The L Word alum Kate Moennig is coming back to Showtime and a gay role. The artist formerly known as Shane will join the Los Angeles private investigator drama Ray Donovan, starring Liev Schreiber.

According to TVLine.com, Moennig will play Schreiber’s “second in command” who helps the P.I. solve the “complicated, confidential and controversial” issues among Hollywood’s elite. In the pilot script, Moennig’s character Lena is described as 28 years old, “dark, intense.”
We are introduced to her when her boss Donovan calls her to go into the office. Then, after the call ends, the script reads:
(She hangs up, turns to the young woman next to her in bed.)
Lena: I have to leave. Get dressed.
Well, that sounds pretty gay – not to mention a little Shane – to me.
The series is said to give “a novelistic look at contemporary Los Angeles,” from Southland creator Ann Biderman. Already announced in the cast are Jon Voight as Ray’s father, Paula Malcomson as Ray’s wife, Elliott Gould as Ray’s mentor, Dash Mihok and Marsan as Ray’s brothers, and The Game as a boxer in training.
Moennig’s last full-time TV gig was the failed CBS medical drama Three Rivers, which debuted in 2009. She has since appeared in a guest role on Dexter and will soon be seen opposite Amanda Seyfried in the thriller Gone. And, of course, those were those six seasons on that little show about the 12th letter in the alphabet.
