| It’s official: Netflix is taking a crack at Black Mirror. The streaming giant has ordered 12 all-new episodes of the acclaimed, mind-bending British anthology series, TVLine has confirmed. Series creator Charlie Brooker will pen the episodes and serve as exec producer and co-showrunner alongside Annabel Jones (the pair oversaw Black Mirror‘s previous seven episodes, which aired on Channel 4 in the UK).
“It’s all very exciting — a whole new bunch of Black Mirror episodes on the most fitting platform imaginable,” Brooker said in a statement. “Netflix connects us with a global audience so that we can create bigger, stranger, more international and diverse stories than before, whilst maintaining that Black Mirror feel. I just hope none of these new story ideas come true.” It was Netflix’s acquisition of Black Mirror‘s original seven self-contained episodes that helped propel the dystopian sci-fi franchise into the international consciousness. Jon Hamm’s appearance in the 2014 Christmas special, not to mention a 2015 Peabody Award, also boosted the show’s profile. A release date for the 12 new episodes is TBD.
